So after the nice nice opera cum concert at the Imperial Palace - Hofburg, (wah I tell you the walk to the station was very cold because we just came out of the warm warm opera hall) we set off for Innsbruck, known to be very pretty for its snow capped mountains in Winter via a train at night (not a night train haha! we didnt even need to reserve our seats! happiness) =) and reached Innsbruck in the morning at 5 am, when everywhere was shrouded by darkness.
Something nice - we had free use of the toilet that originally required us to pay 0.50 euros. Haha, guess it was a stroke of good luck, because almost immediately after we finished using the washroom (I was wondering at that time if we didn't pay, would they have locked us in the toilet? So scary you know, that I was always very scared to lock the doors - but I still did la) the payment system tata was activated and haha! toilets were no longer free. heng heng
And while at the train station, we saw this man who was unable to pay for his train ticket to somewhere else, and came to ask us to pay for his ticket and after some deliberation (must determine whether safe anot mahs) we paid for it and haha! we did a good deed =)
So in the darkness (in the attempt not to waste any time in Innsbruck), we set off for Hofkirche which we thought was opened early in the morning, since the tourist information place (the place where we always go for free maps up till now) was not opened. Twin ingeniously copied a part of the map from the train station and we were on our way! (no photos. photos also cannot see cos too dark le.)
And in the darkness, both of us were so extra cautious (its really scary to be walking the streets in the dark man) and praying for sunrise! We managed to reach Hofkirche and were standing ard when this Austrian man came along to talk to us. A stranger! Wah, twin and I were like going off when he said "Don't escape!" Wah, I tell you damn scary but in the end, we were just erm, too cautious cos he was just being over-friendly at the wrong time.
Being worried for our safety and feeling very cold, we decided to make our way back to the station for some hot chocolate.
And so, brightness beckoned and you see our first photo of the day. (After this long narration, let the pictures do the talking!)
The train station! Where we started off again for the second time after some hot chocolate and a jam doughnut.
Snow capped mountains that we see from somewhere arounfd the station. The long building on the right is the QBB station by the way.
On the way to Hofkirche for the second time, but this time in brightness (more safe la) and this was the friendly tram driver driving this nice white tram who waved to us.
Hofkirche! We managed to catch the beginning part of the service before leaving.
Wah this is prettiness I tell you. The Swarovski gallery. If some man were to buy the whole store for me,... and feed me for the rest of my life..., haha.
Another nice exhibit from the gallery. This is absolute beauty!
We wanted to make our way to Goldenes Dachl, which is also known as the Golden Roof, supposedly some place where we can see the display of wealth of King Maximillian, but we got lost (or rather in retrospect, we passed by without knowing that that was the place, and this time our navigation was indeed much better already after so much practice), and reached this place which was facing I think St Jacob cathedral. I told twin this was a rubbish dump. Haha. Wondered if she believed me. =) (and of course, up till now, I still have no idea what this is even though we did see more on the way)
And tada, this IS the Golden Roof. Wah the name is really literal actaually not so cos its copper (cheaper than gold)! And I think twin and I were not impressed with this display of wealth. Not that we do have the money to build this la, but then, a King should have more money than this!
So now you understand why we missed this. We thought it was a place and we did find a place in the beginning - the restaurant next to this with the same name.
Twin liked this very much. I can understand why. SO artistic and pretty. But while she was taking this, I was playing police and thief (with guns de wor) with a little Japanese boy from a tour group that came by. haha. So nice of me, early morning already made someone happy!
And this is the BIG BIG map in Innsbruck which we later found cost 1 Euro and being thrifty, we didn't buy. Cos also no point cos we dun want to visit many places. And this place, haha, is near the MAGIC kebab place! Wonder what is so magic about the kebab tho? Maybe it is magically priced haha!
And with that we crossed the river! (Twin was also commenting why everywhere we go got river de haha! or rather, the map all like the same de, two riverbanks and a river) Then twin decided to -gosh- play on the merry-go-round! So there you see haha from the picture the child-like happiness on her face! And near it was this stone like thing that has all the weather instrument moulds like the barometer and the thermometer, but they all cannot work sigh. We were wondering if we could get the temperature from there actually. =(
And tada! We saw this in the sky. Twin was thinking if it was some UFO or something? Laughs.
Then we headed back cos we wanted to go to the tourist information centre which opens only at 9am to ask about the snow capped mountain trail, free map and other attractions to which we found out that the trail is some bus away, the map costs (as written above) and the other attractions (which some we had already visited before going to the tourist info) were all displayed on the map. I guess perhaps we had visited a lot of attractions, so it was tiring to visit more, therefore, we decided to just go and freeze ourselves at the mountains. =)
This coolness was taken at the bus stop where we were waiting for the bus up to the mountains. Wonders if there is any historical significance tied to it or it was recently vandalized on haha!
The coolness haa
This was the map of the mountains we were going to freeze at. It also has a ski resort haha! At first twin wanted to walk up the mountains (actually it really is possible just very tiring especially in summer.) But the person selling the cable tickets told us that in winter it is impossible to do so. Being smart and savvy travellers, we decided not to go on with suicide missions and obediently bought our tickets to the highest peak of the mountain. =)
Nice hor the mountains!
This is someone's footsteps. Its not difficult to guess. Hint: they are not mine =)
The very pretty mountains close up =)
Very very pretty. Descriptions would be unjust and unneccessary. =)
And the delight of Innsbruck. These 2 little boys are so so so so cute! They keep falling down on purpose after running rounds and rounds and rounds around us. I love the boys and i think the mum is fantabulous. laughs. She looked at these 2 dirty boys (cos they keep falling to the floor) and just ignored the dirty clothing, instead telling them not to hurt themselves and was always patiently watching them so they would not get hurt. =)
Haha. and we left the beautiful mountains and went to Salzburg.
